Book Worms & Other Musings

Things I'm trying to do more of (and starting to succeed):
  • Eat meals at my kitchen table (versus sitting on the couch or at my desk).
  • Falling asleep without a TV show or a movie playing AND with my computer actually off.
  • Reading before bed (and in general).
  • Floss (you know this already).
That reminds me - I guess in a sense The Great Flossing Challenge is over. I used to have a chart on my bathroom wall with how many times I'd done it, but I took it down because now I don't have to see the chart in order to floss. I guess that means the Challenge was a success. YAY! I'll let you know how the next dentist visit goes. No more lying!

The reading challenge is going well, although I have to make myself finish one book before starting the next. I've got 3 books on the go right now:
  • Sex Drugs & Cocoa Puffs - Chuck Klosterman (nearly done)
  • Outliers - Malcolm Gladwell (about 1/3 to finish)
  • John - Cynthia Lennon (about 1/3 to go as well)
So I'm nearly done all of them, but I haven't finished any yet. Time to really get to it! Last night I got into my bed (so, SO comfy) and read for an hour and a half before falling asleep... AT 10:00 pm!!! WTF?! It felt so good though. I should try it more often.

By the way - John is such a good book. I don't know if it's ghost-written or not (I like to assume it's not and that Cynthia is a brilliant and glamorous woman), but whoever wrote it did an amazing job. The stories are fantastic and new and fresh - it's like she's filling in the gaps in between the stuff that those of us who are Lennon-obsessed already know.

Thoughts so far... John is much less cruel and disinterested as I might've thought. I figured he would've neglected Cynthia more than it appears he did. He's much more loving and tender and reassuring than I imagined. Then again, I haven't gotten to their separation...

THE GREAT FLOSSING CHALLENGE: UPDATE 2

Just to keep you posted:

I have flossed 39 times in 82 days, which means I floss about once every 2.1 days. Isn't that great? Huge improvement. Now, I wanna get that number lower.

THE GREAT FLOSSING CHALLENGE: UPDATE

Important dental hygiene update!!! I just checked, and in 50 days, I have flossed 22 times. That's nearly once every 2 days! I am pumped! I'm gonna try to get it up to once a day, which will require twice or even three times a day (if that makes sense). It's worth it just to be able to say to the hygienist: "How often do I floss? Well, once a day actually. TAKE THAT!"

In other news: As I grow up, I take note of the things that seem to be signs of growing up. One example = buying toilet paper BEFORE you run out of toilet paper. Oui!

WORD OF THE DAY #1

Holler.

Sugar & Gravy's Word of the Day shall be a new segment that I hope to actually remember to do from time to time.

TODAY'S WORD: circumlocution.
Mmmm doesn't it just sound good?

It means: a roundabout or indirect way of speaking; the use of more words than necessary to express an idea.

Loves it.

In other news, the GREAT FLOSSING CHALLENGE (is that what I called it?) is going well, I think. Since my dentist appt. (last Thurs.), I've flossed 5 times, and used my new soft picks or whatever 5 times. It's a start!!!

Fah-Shunn

I wanna go to Helsinki... mostly so I can try my best to get on Hel-Looks.

I wish I had a tonne of money to buy clothes! Honestly, I think I'd start at Value Village. I want to take all of my clothes out of my closet and drawers and see what I can donate, alter, bring back into my life, put away for another time, etc.

I'm gonna watch "The September Issue" again.

P.S. Some great songs from the soundtrack - "Nostrand" & "Swisha" by Ratatat, "Burn It All Down" by VHS or Beta, "At Sea" by Electrelane, "S to U" by Chessie, and "Around the Bend" by The Asteroids Galaxy Tour.

P.P.S. I've flossed once since my dentist appointment, and plan on doing it again this morning.

THE GREAT FLOSSING CHALLENGE

Went to the dentist today and it was incredibly painful! My gums are inflamed and nasty stuff is building up in there. My hygienist said I need to floss. Normally I would nod and lie and say I would. Today I nodded and said I would, but I wasn't lying.

I commit to flossing once daily from February 19th - onwards.

I will blog to let you know the progress.

Who's visiting?
