Old vs. New

I saw an ad on campus today for a summer sublet. I've got a place for the summer, so that's not what interested me. What did interest me was a statement on the poster that was along the lines of "Only 4 years old".

It reminded me of something I've thought about a few times over the past couple of years - old vs. new houses. There are a lot of people, I find, that are really obsessed with the idea of their house or apartment being new. New is associated with clean, safe, sanitary, and quality. Old, on the other hand, is associated with dirty, unsafe, unhealthy, and deterioration.

I'm not chirping the people who are into new places. I mean, I understand the draw, I really do. However, as someone who grew up in a beautiful home in residential Toronto that has been around for 50+ years, I just cannot relate. I think old houses equal character, personality, and sturdiness. With apartment complexes going up in weeks, I just don't understand how new places are safer. Sure, old places require a lot of work to maintain, but so does any place, I think! Plus, if they've hung around for so many years, who's to say they won't hang around for a lot longer?

Moral of the story? When I am in a position to buy a house, I'll be looking for something old.

You know what's actually totally crazy when you think about it?

It is considered totally normal to constantly have your Blackberry in your hand or somewhere on your person. Seriously. Having it in your hand at the bar... having it in your lap when you drive... having it on your desk in class... It is so totally normal to see people in pictures with their Blackberries in their hands.

Think about it.

I mean, really think about it.

I've thought about it... and I still want one, but it's weird, right?

More Fashion

I guess fashion is my interest as of late. Or, I dunno, fashion has often been an interest in the back of my mind. Like I said in my last entry, I don't know a tonne about it, but I'm fascinated by it at the same time. Any way to express yourself, be creative and artistic... I love that!

Right now I'm watching "The September Issue" for the second time, and they were showing old pictures of Grace Coddington, who is now the Creative Director for U.S. Vogue, and was once a model for Vogue. Her model shots are absolutely beautiful.

On another note, Anna Wintour is captivating.

I don't know a tonne when it comes to fashion, but I know that I find this incredibly fierce. I've been watching "America's Next Top Model" Cycle 1 over the holidays (super random, I know), so I'm starting to notice more when it comes to models, ads, etc. That being said, I think I always would've appreciated Hermione looking so hot.

Regardless, this ad (and the others in the series) is FEROCIOUS! You go, girl! Smile with your eyes!
